All Things Music

All Things Music (in lockdown)

This is where I tell you what is going on ‘music wise’ with me and some people I know. Maybe I sang on something for/with them or maybe I’m just a fan of their talents. Perhaps I’ll drop a random story from time to time in this Blog about my musical exploits…I may reveal too much so don’t tell the famous people… no, only kidding…

Here is what my close musical friends are doing during lockdown…

I am proud to call Philip Sayce, who I had the good fortune to work with in the past, my friend. He is an amazing blues-rock guitar player and when he plays you listen… he has a style that moves the whole room. It’s so fantastic to have played live with him! We first met on Melissa Etheridge’s “Lucky Tour”. I sang on the album and when I sat in with Melissa in Los Angeles Philip was her guitar player. A couple of months ago I got to do some backing vocals on a song called “Oh My” which is on Philips new album, “Spirit Rising”. It’s up-tempo and it rocks … really enjoyed singing it over here in my home studio. His record was just released and I hope it brings him the success he deserves…go check him out (especially all you guitar players) instagram @philipsayce

My buddies Little Days are plugging away in the studio during lockdown reviving some previously thought to be “Lost Files”. Amazing what you can find when you dust off the cassette player – just kidding, I think it was an 8-track. I had the opportunity to do an east coast tour with them at the end of last year. Jorgen is home from touring with Gov’t Mule and he and Mini are working hard. Good people and fantastic musicians…I always look forward to hearing their music.

Lily Wilson has taken to performing online during lockdown. I met Lily through Melissa Etheridge as well. We hit it off and wrote some songs together with our mutual friend Paul Trudeau. A couple of these songs can be heard on “Redeemed”. I think we have magic when we write together and hope to do it again soon. Lily can be heard every night on instagram @lilymusicpix.

And then there’s Adam Chester. He is a staple around the Los Angeles party/piano bars. Super fun! During the lockdown he started performing on his street to the neighbors every weekend. I think he is doing it just as much for himself as he is for other people. Either way, they love him madly! He just started a youtube channel to post his “Quarenchella” performances. For all of you who have heard him when he plays at the Sunset Marque … this might help with your “Adam Chester Withdrawal Syndrome”  (yes… that’s a thing )

My good friend and buddy Joan Jones is an amazing singer. We get to goof off together from time to time in a band called “Deadwood Jones”. Our music is currently streaming and Alexa knows who we are… all you just have to do is ask! She sang with me on the remake of Shelby Lynn’s “She Knows Where She Goes”. Joan is working with some other music play pals in a band called “Boss Angeles” and their recently released album is called “California Streaming”… Have a listen.

Jimmy Khoury is another compadre in Deadwood Jones. He also made a couple of “Redeemed” guitar appearances on the songs “For the Love” & “Forever”. He is a fantastic guitar player and has a great project with Toby Rand and Gary Beers (from INXS). Their new band is called Ashen Moon and they just signed a worldwide record deal. Yay Jimmy! Personally, I am about to release a new record. Something I haven’t done for probably 20 years. Started a label with my hubby John and we are learning about what a record company does for artists. There is so much to learn…Mind blown…. But we keep moving forward. Wish us luck. Currently making videos about who played on the record as well as little advertisements to post on social media to help get the word out. Next up, some live performances…

Stay tuned and I’ll keep you informed about what else is going on in my musical exploits. I may have some insider stories to tell you! If you have any questions please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Musically Yours,

Bernie
